Graduates in December 2017 from BYU with a degree in Finance, the youngest to do so.  Max's is also working as an investment banker, doing tech mergers and acquisitions with Lazard Freres & Co.  He also had a perfect score on the ACT,  won the Sterling Scholar award in Business & Marketing and has a perfect GPA at BYU.  Max says, "The UYO&E program has really shaped my life into something better, more musical, and generally happier. In addition to the skills of practice and dedication I built within this program, many of my closest connections stem from the bright people in this program. When I look back on the friends I've made and the music that we learned under Barb's excellent instruction, I wish that this program weren't just for youth!"

I was in the Utah Youth Symphony from Fall of 1993 until Spring of 1999. I have to say it was one of the most worthwhile and defining experiences of my teenage years. Since leaving the orchestra I studied Manufacturing Engineering at BYU and now work as a Manufacturing Engineer in Indiana. I’ve also recently started playing with the local Community Orchestra.

FLUTE

I will be going to the University of California-Berkeley, and I haven't declared my major yet. I'm hoping to declare biochemistry, but nothing's set in stone yet. My favorite moments in UYSO were the first moment that I received a piece and then looking back on this moment before the concert, finally being able to sit first chair flute, and the great feeling of knowing I could play every single part of the Mahler that we just performed. Being leader of a section gave me confidence like never before. Sitting down and hearing the immense sound and beautiful music we can create amazes me every time I hear it because it's just gorgeous.

My experiences in UYSO, I'm sure will become some of my fondest memories from high school. The thought of Saturday morning rehearsals have always been a happy one, and without UYSO, I'm fairly certain the stress of AP classes would have actually driven me insane. But much more importantly than that, UYSO was where I learned to really, really love music.

During rehearsals, somehow UYSO creates a situation that truly brings out the absolute best in each individual, not only musically speaking, but also in terms of respect and genuine kindness for one another. That kind of situation, I think, is pretty rare and is what makes UYSO so special.

I'm graduating this year and next year I will be majoring in viola performance at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. I'll be studying with Atar Arad...probably. UYSO has been so awesome! I'm going to miss it!

UYSO has been so great over the past couple years and because of it, I have met and befriended new people and I have learned a lot! I have grown as not only as a cellist, but also as a person! The people are great and Barb is amazing! Thanks for a great couple of years!!!

Coming August I will be attending Utah State University as an excited freshmen. I am not sure what I will be majoring in, however I am going to start my generals and I will also start on my minor which will be music. I plan on auditioning and hopefully making it into the Utah State University Symphony! I do not know what my plans will consist of in college but all I know is that I am excited and I cannot wait to see what college has in store for me!

I recently graduated from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in bassoon performance. I also studied business and organizational leadership, and now I am working in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I have always tried to lead a double-life of being a musician and working to pay the bills, and the conductor of the Saigon Symphony has invited me to perform with them when I am able to take time away from being in my office. Many thanks to UYS for opening my eyes to the world of orchestral music!

I went to Snow College for one year my major was Communications with a focus on radio. I have been interviewed and filmed personally for The Mormon Channel for a documentary on Parkour. My Parkour team "Defy" has been featured on the news. I am currently a security guard at The Gateway. I am preparing to serve a LDS mission, I don't know where I will be serving yet though.

Good luck to everyone next year in UYS! It's truly been an amazing experience and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to interact with so many talented people :)

I'm going to Yale University and would like to double major in Economics and International Relations. I also want to keep up with music by auditioning for the Yale Symphony Orchestra and maybe joining a few chamber groups on campus too.
