Utah Youth Orchestras
& Ensembles (UYOE)
Since 1986, Music Director and Conductor Barbara Scowcroft's vision has been to educate and inspire young musicians through exceptional ensemble training and performance opportunities in classical music.
As Utah's first youth symphony, founded in 1957, Utah Youth Orchestras and Ensembles have nurtured thousands of talented musicians ages 12-21 with coaching and development by the area's finest professional conductors and musicians.
The 2017-2018 season will begin on September 15th and 16th
For our winter program the Utah Youth Symphony and Utah Youth Philharmonic will join a chorus of 300 voices for the orchestral premiere of Neely Bruce's "Circular 14: The Apotheosis of Aristides". This oratorio depicts the true story of Aristides de Sousa Mendes, who wrote thousands of life-saving visas for refugees during World War II, against his government's decree. The performance will be on January 27th, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, at the historic Tabernacle on Temple Square.
Schedule for the week of January 19th and 20th.
Due to the conflict with Allstate Orchestra we will have string sectionals only on Friday January 19th at the regular time, 4-6:30, at Gardner Hall. Winds and Brass are off. Saturday's rehearsal will be with combined orchestras and choirs in the Tabernacle, on Temple Square. Rehearsal will start at 8:00 and go until 11:30. Please note the earlier start time and plan accordingly. Saturday's UYJunior rehearsal will be at the regular location, the West Institute, at the regular time, 9:00 to 10:30.
